Understated private camping in the unspoiled Northumberland countryside
Suitable for tents, caravans, motorhomes, campervans, children and well-behaved dogs

‘We promote camping in a natural, non-commercial environment’

Walkmill Campsite is a quiet and peaceful campsite encircled by the River Coquet.  Think of us as a wild camping experience with luxuries to enhance your stay.  Amongst idyllic woodland and wild flowers across the meadow in mid-summer, Walkmill is a tranquil site on a smallholding of over 8 acres.

The river bank that surrounds Walkmill is a Natural England SSSI and therefore a protected area due to the wildlife and wildflowers.  This restricts access to the river bank and to fly drones over such a protected area is not permitted. We thank you for your understanding in this respect. Walkmill pathways do take you as close as possible to allow you to view, photograph and or video. It may be your day to see the Salmon jumping around or even spot the Otter or Kingfisher.

Facilities include four toilets a shower and a bath along with a shared kitchen, sitting area and a mini-shop. A new eco-shower area was introduced to the site during summer 2023. The pleasant 30 to 40 minute walk to Warkworth Castle takes in the riverside passing by the hermitage and once in Warkworth the wonderful sandy beach stretches for miles.

Warkworth to Amble is quite an easy 3 mile walk or cycle. This walk explores the River Coquet before the Northumberland Coast around Amble where there are boat trips to see the ‘Puffins’ on Coquet Island. Walkmill Campsite is within easy reach of the Coast and Castles route from Newcastle to Edinburgh, so makes a good overnight stop for cyclists.

The whole site is so stunning, a beautiful meadow field sweeping down to the river, and we were delighted with our beautiful secluded spacious ‘crook of the river’ pitch. the solar showers are the nicest I’ve seen. The picnic tables nestled in the meadows with mown paths winding to them are a thoughtful addition. The sound of the river rushing behind the huge oaks really adds to the experience. Everything you need is provided, so that you can show up with a tiny hiking tent and a one burner stove and have luxury as well. True wild glamping. So much loving care and attention has gone into creating Walkmill, and Claire is a brilliant host.

What an absolute gem of a place. This is by far, my favourite site in Northumberland. Perfectly situated, lovely and peaceful ,great facilities plus nice walk to Warkworth over the river which took us approx 45 mins.
Dark skies, quirky facilities in the static caravan which we loved plus an awesome eco shower at the other side of the site. The owners are the nicest and friendliest I have met in a long time. It's not expensive either they have got it just right... Don't change a thing Claire. I am bringing my family back in August as we loved it so much.

Have to say this is my favourite campsite to date 😊 idyllic in every way . The campsite is kept perfectly the way it just makes you feel one with nature, which I personally love . Both owners spoke to me and were both so lovely and welcoming. So much thought has been taken on this campsite the grass has been kept untouched in places to allow for wild flowers to grow, the eco-showers that can be used to improve health of visitors and the cutest little out door toilets you ever did see ! There’s also a static caravan that host a shop, washing area lovely bathroom facilities with even a bath! Plus 2 seating areas . Lovely little walk way down by the river which was ideal for walking my dogs . 10/10 will definitely be recommending to all and I hope to visit again 😊

Stunning site, feels very spacious and generously sized pitches. We all loved our pitch in the crook of the river and the meadow grass with mown paths and pitches are wonderful. Great to have use of the facilities in the static. Honesty system very useful for necessities. Tried the local sausages and bacon, very tasty. Owners really helpful and the whole place has such a calming and relaxing feel.

Beautiful campsite in a stunning location. The land is so cared for and cleverly set out, a feeling of space and large, generous quality pitches with space to breathe between your neighbours. It has a calm, natural energy, with it's wildlife, river and a backdrop wall of forest trees. Pitches set in long grasses & wild flowers with mown pathways throughout the site. Hosts are great. Friendly helpful environmentally conscious people.
Outdoor eco showers in corrugated huts are a must try - fantastic, envigorating, I loved it! Overall, one of the most natural beautiful campsites we've stayed on. Will definitely revisit. Thanks so much.

Our pitch was perfect, plenty of space for our 10 night stay. We saw herons, buzzards and sparrow hawks. We heard the owls at night and the stars were very clear. The amenities were clean and rarely crowded. It was nice to have fresh milk, meat and a homemade cake if we fancied from their honesty box shop 😊. We would definitely visit again.

We were blown away with this peaceful site. It was well kept, the pitches were an excellent size, the facilities as stated and very clean. Both the owners and other campers were delightful. We will be back!

One of my favourite campsites:clean and quiet. A gorgeous site with long grass and huge trees. Enjoyed watching the bats and barn owl in the evening. Good facilities as well, hot water, can charge phones and fridge.
